The design program was to create a spacious modern deck space with shade, heating, and railings that would not obstruct the view.

We designed and installed custom metal brackets to sit on the roof of the house that we could build the pergola off of. Retractable roman shades straddle the pergola rafters to provide shade for the hot midday sun. Outdoor blinds help protect from the direct evening sun so the clients can enjoy the sunset in comfort.

This was an interesting project as most often, we design gardens with various spaces to accommodate our lifestyle. Yet this project forced us to apply that approach to a single deck. The clients were able to use the various parts of the deck for lounging, bbq, lounging on a hammock, and even tending to fruit trees and herbs in planter boxes.
