Berkeley Homestead
Our client John in Berkeley loved to garden, particularly with edibles and herbs.
He hired us to design a full backyard to accommodate his hobby and also to provide a new home for his beloved chickens.
We wanted to provide structure for John’s garden by designing various planting beds and spaces for different activities to take place: herb bed here, asparagus bed there, chickens in the sunlight, access to fruit trees.
The garden began to take shape when circulation from space to space was defined. The need for curvilinear raised planting beds directed us towards using corten steel which helped us to also maximize planting space with it’s narrow width.
After we installed the large focal plants and left, our client filled in all the beds we created for him with his favorite plants and customized his own piece of paradise.
